The Japanese variety store, Daiso will open in downtown Vancouver, B.C., around the end of March 2021.
The store is located at 810 Granville Street, which is only a few doors south of Robson Street. Additionally, it is just a 5-min walk from Granville Street Station and easily accessible by public transit.
Daiso in downtown Vancouver will be their first directly operated store in Canada.
Many items are to be sold at $2.25.
Mr. Koichi Goto, in charge of Public Relations of Daiso Japan, commented to the Vancouver Shinpo that “we are excited to introduce our useful and unique Japanese items/gadgets as a part of Japanese culture as well. We hope people in Canada will enjoy shopping at the new Daiso.”
According to its corporate website, Daiso has 3,367 stores in Japan and over 5,000 stores worldwide (as of March 2019). It also says that Daiso is often called “the Japanese dollar store,” but their cute, “kawaii” designs and unique kind of value simply cannot be compared to other dollar stores.
At present, Vancouverites can check the progress of the opening and see some of the products for when Daiso Canada will open their doors.
Metro Vancouver used to have a Daiso store at Aberdeen Centre in Richmond, operated by the Fairchild Group as a franchise. However, in August 2019, it was transformed into an OOMOMO store. OOMOMO carries Seria and other Japanese dollar store products.
